A General Appearance of the Dog

The Yorkipoo is the result of crossing a Yorkshire Terrier with a Teacup or Toy or Miniature Poodle, yielding quite a variety in sizes. This particular cross does not yield any two dogs of the same characteristics in looks or temperament even in the same litter, so a description of this breed is difficult. It is imperative you look up the characteristics of each breed (and size) to determine what genes are dominant in your dog.

While many Yorkiepoos have floppy ears and a soft, silky coat, you will find others (even littermates) with upward pointed ears or a curly coat. Most have button eyes and a small black nose (but the nose could be brown). This dog is considered to be hypoallergenic, but you should spend some time with it before taking it home to make sure you aren’t allergic to it if you have dog hair or dander allergies.

Yorkipoos love people, so like going places with their owners and meeting new people. They like to be held and cuddled, but they have a lot of energy and like to explore. They are good with older children and other family pets. They are fragile, so a fall or someone tripping over the dog or hugging the dog too tightly can cause death.

The Yorkipoo is a great apartment dog if he is not left alone for long periods. He can be a barker, especially when bored, and he can and will be destructive if bored. Yorkipoos can be picky eaters.

Coat

Coat colors of the Yorkipoo seem dependent on the coat color of the poodle involved, so white, apricot, red, sable, chocolate, gray, silver, black, and tan are frequently seen. Other Yorkipoos have the black and brown coat of the Yorkie or may even have a tricolor coat. Many have Yorkie-like fur that is long and smooth, but some have curly or semi-curly coats. They seldom shed, so are fairly hypoallergenic.
