Country of Origin, History of Yorkipoos
There is no known date or person who started the Yorkipoo breed, but it is believed it may have existed naturally over the years. However, it was only in the 1990s that designer dog breeders in North America mixed Yorkshir Terriers and Toy Poodles to develop Yorkipoos to have an intelligent, affectionate companion dog. As demand for mixed breed dogs kept increasing, Yorkipoos became more and more popular.

A General Appearance of the Dog
The Yorkipoo is the result of crossing a Yorkshire Terrier with a Teacup or Toy or Miniature Poodle, yielding quite a variety in sizes. This particular cross does not yield any two dogs of the same characteristics in looks or temperament even in the same litter, so a description of this breed is difficult. It is imperative you look up the characteristics of each breed (and size) to determine what genes are dominant in your dog.
While many Yorkiepoos have floppy ears and a soft, silky coat, you will find others (even littermates) with upward pointed ears or a curly coat. Most have button eyes and a small black nose (but the nose could be brown). This dog is considered to be hypoallergenic, but you should spend some time with it before taking it home to make sure you aren’t allergic to it if you have dog hair or dander allergies.
Yorkipoos love people, so like going places with their owners and meeting new people. They like to be held and cuddled, but they have a lot of energy and like to explore. They are good with older children and other family pets. They are fragile, so a fall or someone tripping over the dog or hugging the dog too tightly can cause death.
The Yorkipoo is a great apartment dog if he is not left alone for long periods. He can be a barker, especially when bored, and he can and will be destructive if bored. Yorkipoos can be picky eaters.
Coat
Coat colors of the Yorkipoo seem dependent on the coat color of the poodle involved, so white, apricot, red, sable, chocolate, gray, silver, black, and tan are frequently seen. Other Yorkipoos have the black and brown coat of the Yorkie or may even have a tricolor coat. Many have Yorkie-like fur that is long and smooth, but some have curly or semi-curly coats. They seldom shed, so are fairly hypoallergenic.

Temperament of the Dog
The Yorkipoo is a great companion or family dog. In a family, children must be trained to be careful with the dog and the dog must be trained not to be underfoot because a fall or hard squeeze or tripping over the dog can cause mortal injury. Yorkipoos get along with everyone, including other pets. They are friendly, affectionate, and loyal family members and are social and cheerful on outings.
Yorkipoos are very intelligent and can problem solve on their own. They are quick learners. They do well in dog shows, but they love the training as much as being the center of attention at the show. They are charmers who love to socialize. Some use their front paws in ways similar to hands to hug or to move objects.
The Yorkipoo tends to get bored easily if left alone for any length of time. When bored, he barks or becomes destructive.
Better suited to an indoor or outdoor lifestyle?
The Yorkipoo is an indoor dog who will cuddle with you every chance he gets. He enjoys a walk on his leash to meet people, go potty, and explore the neighborhood.
Are they suited to homes with kids?
The Yorkipoo is a bit fragile, so younger children must be supervised when interacting with the dog. Both kids and adults must be careful not to kick, step on, or drop the dog. Otherwise, he is a family dog.
Socialize and obedience train your Yorkie so he does not develop small dog syndrome and so he quits barking on command. He needs mental stimulation, physical activity, and social interaction daily. Consider training your dog in agility or rally to keep him stimulated.

How active is the breed?
The Yorkipoo is active indoors, playing with toys and his family. However, he enjoys walks and outings where he meets other people and dogs and learns about his surroundings. He will happily learn tricks and entertain everyone.
Most Yorkipoos will benefit from a trip to the professional groomer every 6 – 8 weeks. Brushing weekly or twice a week will keep their coats looking their best. Nails will need to be trimmed every 3 – 4 weeks, teeth brushed at least 3 times a week, and ears checked at least once or twice a week. You may need to trim the hair around the eyes periodically so it doesn’t irritate his eyes or keep him from seeing.
